Last week I started fieldwork for a new research project.
This new study will examine how different approaches to forest management influence the growth rate of trees, and thus how much carbon they're sequestering. It's commonly assumed that when trees are harvested, the remaining trees experience an increase in their growth rate, since they have access to more light when the surrounding trees are removed. Our goal is to not just test this hypothesis, but also to quantify how different harvest intensities change tree and forest growth rates.
