Really appreciated coming across this piece. Very helpful for my novel-in-progress and grateful for many of the new references. I am fellow Penn Stater (and raised in State College), wayward geographer, now in Tucson.
Ask your department folks if anyone remembers Globehead. It was a very cool geog journal grad students formed back in the 90s. As an undergraduate I was so enamored I later launched a geog journal at U of Arizona called “you are here,” which is still going all these years later. Props to PSU geog students for inspiring it!
This is a great piece! I would like to leave a comment but I can’t now. In the meantime I wanted to aknowledge it.

Thanks, Kimi. It's great to connect with other Penn Staters, especially a fellow geographer!
