Birch trees tend to look similar. Like river birch, paper birch bark peels in thin curly strips. On young trees the bark is often white with an orange or pink tinge to it, while mature paper birch bark usually has dark horizontal lenticels and more pronounced peeling. But although it may have some similar appearances to river birch, the bark of paper birch has many more uses.
